We encourage you to watch the 2nd FosterREG video and learn more about the core of our project - training workshops aimed at enhancing public capacity at local, regional and national levels to better plan, finance and manage integrated urban regeneration for sustainable energy uptake.

On the 14th of March the Kick-off event of the Green Deal Gasfree district had place in the city of Utrecht.

TNO 1The event was organized by the ministry of Economic affairs and their executing agency (RVO), TNO and the NGO HIER klimaatbureau together. At least 80 participants were present during the event. The vast majority were policy officers from the over 30 partner municipalities, next to policy makers of national ministries and other governmental agencies. Other participants came from NGO’s, semi-government, umbrella organizations and a small set of private companies.

Beside capacity building trainings for public authorities, FosterREG works on the alignment of interests, strengthening of relations and knowledge exchange with the existing networks relevant to energy efficiency in urban regeneration. Example of FosterREG networking activities is the collaboration with other H2020 projects clusters, namely URBAN LEARNING and BUILD UPON.

Contacts with these two mentioned projects’ representatives were made by the FosterREG national cluster in Croatia during the training activities. Both projects work on similar goals, addressing energy efficiency issues in urban regeneration.

On 8th March 2017 the FosterREG partners TNO and the Municipality of Utrecht became partners of the Green Deal Gasfree districts. The Minister of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands, thirty municipalities, five distributed system operators, twelve provinces and other partners signed in Utrecht a Greendeal in order to heat homes in a different way than with natural gas. This Green Deal fits into the ambition of a low CO2 Dutch society in 2050.  Each of the municipalities have set-up initiatives to make existing neighborhoods gas free, in consultation with residents and other local partners.
